Our beautiful country has been polluted by radioactivity on and after March 11, 2011.
Government and management company had guaranteed absolute safety. However, accidents happen really, they did not fulfill the responsibility for the situation, openly lied, and rushed into their own self-protection. I was angry and shocked by it.
A radioactive material continues leaking and is still continuing spreading. The mountains and rivers which are not different from former and look beautiful apparently may also already be polluted.
To forget this, to forget the beautiful scenery of Japan, as a requiem for the future, I decided to paint the series of "Memories of lost country".

2011年3月11日以降、私たちの美しい郷土は、放射能によって二度と還らないものとなりつつあります。絶対の安心を謳っていた国や管理会社が、いざ本当に事故が起こってみると、事態に対して責任を果たすどころか、公然と嘘をつき、あまつさえ自分たちの保身に奔走するさまに、私は衝撃と、筆舌に尽くしがたい怒りを覚えました。そして今、この瞬間にも、放射性物質は漏れ続け、拡がり続けています。
そんな状況の中で、私は、今までと同じスタンスで制作を続けていて良いのだろうかと考える様になりました。
私がモチーフとしてきた美しい日本の風景が日々刻々と汚染されているのです。一見、今までと変わらず美しく見える山や河も、近い将来、直接観たり触れたりする事ができなくなってしまうかもしれないのです。
この事に対して私が感じている怒りや悲しみを度外視して、これまでと変わらずに描いていたのでは、今を生きる作家として、また、自分自身に対しても、どこかで嘘をついている事になるのではないかと。
こうした思いを作品として昇華させたのが、「亡郷の記憶」シリーズです。
すなわち、この事故を忘れないために、そして失われゆく日本の美しい風景を未来永劫忘れないために、私は未来へのレクイエムとしてこのシリーズを描く事にしました。この国に生まれ、生きる画家として。
